Mort Jardin – ‘Incidentals from the Dead Garden’

An instrumental rock sound with charisma and stylishness lingers throughout Incidentals from the Dead Garden, a new album from Mort Jardin, a project based in Lymm, UK.

“Double Drop” exudes ample mystique to open the album, strutting a range of debonair guitar tones with twangy immersion. Points like the one-minute turn inject a burst of added charisma, diversifying well from the suave verses. “Benzin” is another standout, achieving a more upfront rock charisma from the get-go; a steady percussive pulse complements a heavier-rocking vigor with satiating results.

In another rhythmic realm, with jazzier and more introspective percussion, “Mattress” hypnotizes in its subdued push — sounding like the score to an imaginary David Lynch western film. Incidentals from the Dead Garden is consistently impressive in its stylish guitar-fronted soundscapes, succeeding fully in its range from swampy guitar-led rockers like “Mattress” to rhythmic-fronted successes like “Orange Filter,” which also culminates in delectable guitar bursts.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
