Moon Date – “Maze”

/

’80s synth nostalgia and hooky alt-rock converge on “Maze,” an invigorating new single from Detroit-based band Moon Date. Lyrically tapping into the “inner turmoil of self-discovery,” “Maze” builds with anthemic fervency; spirited vocal momentum, pulsing synth movements, and twangy guitar lines are stirring throughout. The act, which formed in 2020, describes the release as “an anthem for anyone grappling with societal norms while striving to find their true self.”

Rousing guitar lines enter with soaring immersion after a pulsing synth-led briefness. Those clanging synths permeate with steady appeal amidst the more free-flowing guitars, which cohesively mingle into the lead vocals’ enthusiasm. “I saw you took it all, and I wait for it to crumble,” Jess’ vocals let out, ascending into a chirpier guitar ardency past the one-minute turn. Swells of distortion and elongated vocals enamor during this central hook, which is wholly replay-inducing in its vocal passion and melodic intertwining of synths and guitars. We’re excited to hear what’s next from Moon Date.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.

We discovered this release via MusoSoup, as part of the artist’s promotional campaign.
