Michael VQ – “RICH P”

/

A buzzing alt-pop inventiveness shows on “Rich P” from Michael VQ, an artist currently based in NYC, after originally beginning his career as a street performer in Seattle. Whirring analog brass, broken piano samples, and a horn section converge amidst the artist’s intense vocal escalations, which reflect on class divide and the rampancy of late-stage capitalism. “He pays no bills,” one lyric exudes, meshing well with the ensuing pace and themes: “No one in the Family can remember what it means / To work a single minute of the week.” “RICH P” is a resonating, delectably unsettling success.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
