Maya Ruth – “oblivion”

/

A poem-turned-song from Maya Ruth, “oblivion” represents the artist’s second single, and proves commanding in its grungy, introspective appeal. A suave vocal feeling, bordering singing and spoken-word, melds grippingly with warming guitar distortion for an enjoyably dazed immersion. A bursting guitar layer arises past the first-minute turn as the vocals momentarily fade, re-emerging alongside a jangling, infectious appeal as the vocals ask “doesn’t it scare you?” — fully consuming in its themes, which per the artist is “fueled by absurdity as a question and an answer to the monotony of everyday life.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
