“HOLD ON” is a thematically personal and stylistically versatile new single from Lo Artiz, an artist originally from Miami and based in Los Angeles. “The song was written shortly after I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder,” the artist explains. “I had been battling severe depression & an eating disorder & was looking anywhere I could for hope to keep on going.”
Featuring standout production from Trey Kams and Ashton Sellars, “HOLD ON” blends intoxicating vocal smoothness, gorgeous string arrangements, and a funky yet subdued rhythmic backing. The live strings were arranged by Ethan Cohen, and add beautifully to the overall melodic aesthetic, incorporating R&B entrancement and hip-hop rhythms. The title-touting beckoning approaching the three-minute is especially impactful, urging to “hold on, to here and now.”
“The track is dedicated to all who are struggling,” Lo Artiz continues. “It is a sort of mantra I wrote for those who’ve been in/are in the darkest of places. It’s about trying to find beauty around you despite pain in the game of life. Sometimes it’s in people & other times it’s in moments. My mental & physical health was failing me & at the time I became morbidly aware of mortality. This soulful track is about finding beauty in the attempt of trying again.”
