Hele – “Blue City”

/

A gorgeous unfolding takes hold across “Blue City,” a new track from Hele that grips in its evolution from beautifully ambiguous swells to gripping orchestral intrigue. The solo project of classically trained musician and composer Richele Kuhlmann shows no shortage of atmosphere, exuding a cinematic grandiosity in the eventual intertwining of cello, violin, keys, and synths. A pit-pattering rhythmic element approaches the three-minute turn with further engrossment, complemented thereafter by twinkling piano-driven excitement.

“Blue City” represents the first release from Hele’s upcoming EP, Eladia, described as “a reworking of early songs written primarily during lockdown and based on a succession of dreams.” Featuring production from Austin-based producer Andy Dollerson, the EP is firmly on our radar with the ravishing entrancement conveyed via “Blue City.” Its blend of orchestral and electronic elements makes for an unforgettable sense of atmospheric immersion.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
