dove blood – ‘delirious’ EP

Brooklyn-based trio dove blood immerses across their new EP, delirious — concocting a moody, deliciously dark sound with elements of dream-pop and shoegaze. The project comprises Nadya Grace (bass, vocals), multi-instrumentalist Alicia Berbenick, and Avi Bonnerjee (guitar, vocals).

The EP’s title track opens with a lush intrigue, asking “what are we gonna do?” into the next track’s more debonair rock twang. Suave vocals emerge on the ensuing “manic,” set amidst rumbling bass and an overall late-night engrossment that would feel at home at The Roadhouse on Twin Peaks. Angular guitar tones at the one-minute mark build into a beautiful multi-layered vocal emergence, complementing lyrical aspirations into further gorgeous guitar twangs at mid-point. Twinkling synths add wonderfully in the final minute.

“wdy” serves enjoyably as the most distorted, ardent track on the EP — moving with grimy guitars, foreboding vocal tones, and pit-pattering percussive steadiness; it’s a compelling showcase of the project’s heavier tonal pursuits, succeeding just as well here as lusher introspections like the finale “all the time.” There, textured guitars and dreamy vocals combine for an aesthetic with shades of Mazzy Star. delirious is an enveloping success of an EP from dove blood.

“wdy” and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
