Diana Omar – “gold”

/

Showing a consuming pop sound that balances guitar-friendly crispness and electronic atmospherics, “gold” is a memorable success from Baltimore-based artist Diana Omar. A robotics expert and STEM advocate by day, Omar’s musical pursuits show both a hooky immediacy and emotive sincerity, which on “gold” is conveyed with precision in its enjoyably replay-inducing structural build.

A gripping pop expansion shows, moving from quaint glimmering keys and reflective bass into vibrant guitar twangs. “I don’t know what it is about your soul,” the vocals let out, embracing a new sense of personal wholeness — “you make me whole,” — as the vibrant central hook takes hold. The bass-heavy subsequent verses continue the momentum, driving into a satiating conclusion with guitars that fade into the night. “gold” is a melodic charmer from Diana Omar.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
