Anacy – “Hot Mess”

/

An engaging pop mystique shows on “Hot Mess,” a recent single from Anacy. The Cape Town-based artist released her first studio project in 2019, with “Treble In Trouble.” Several stand-alone singles followed, from the house and electronic-minded cut “My Sweet Lullaby” to the synth/piano interplay within “It’s Not You.” Anacy continues to strut a knack for synth-laden pop atmospherics and compelling structural momentum with “Hot Mess,” described as “a sonic journey through chaos and self-discovery, inspired by raw vulnerability and life’s unpredictable moments.”

“I’m a cautionary tale,” Anacy’s suave vocals emit as simmering synths drive into crisp percussive accompaniments. Ghostly backing vocal reflections add thereafter, continuing the haunting sense of momentum. “I love the way,” the riveting chorus begins, complemented by additional twinkling layers of synths and keys, alongside a galloping rhythmic stride. “Hot Mess” balances lush verses with a melodic central hook, set within themes of self-discovery that wholly resonate. “Hot Mess” is another success from the ascending artist.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
