Alex Stanilla – “Watered Down”

/

A soaring new single from Pennsylvania-based artist Alex Stanilla, “Watered Down” melds harmonious vocal beauty with illuminated guitars and a steady bass line — evolving into a hypnotic, melodic title-touting refrain. Per Stanilla, the track “describes a feeling that our daily lives have become so overstimulating that when we actually attend a big event, like a wedding, it feels really condensed, hollow and diluted.”

Joined by Ben Roth on bass, Joe Fuscia on drums, and Carl Bahner on percussion, the track’s production shines with its evolution from momentum-filled vocal drives in the verses to a gripping central hook. Hazy guitar strums evolve into Stanilla’s vibrant vocals, reminding fondly of Manic Street Preachers in its impassioned tonal directiveness.

A reference to sunset, and asking “did you forget the colors?” beckons to that aforementioned themes, of how an overstimulated daily life can make bigger events feel colorless and “watered down.” The track is another standout success from Stanilla, who first caught our ears in May with the track “Let You In.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
