Shortcake – “Darling”

/

NYC-based artist Shortcake stirs on the introspective “Darling.” “You’re so torn up about me, I don’t know what I could’ve said…” the vocals sing with a forlorn intrigue. Urgings that they didn’t “just give my heart away,” tugs at the heart alongside glistening guitars, soft acoustics, and wordless vocal ghostliness that lingers underneath. Subtle strings infuse beautifully open up gradually alongside the serene vocal immersion. “Darling” thoroughly consumes in its heartfelt vocal work, lush guitar tones, and delicate string infusions.

Shortcake elaborates further on the track:

“”Darling” navigates the fact that love is not black and white nor linear. After personally experiencing and witnessing situationships and complicated romance, I felt inspired to write lyrics that capture the unattached nature of modern love. I then wrote the parts for and recorded the strings, rhythmic guitar, piano and more instrumental elements to create a dreamy and romantic atmosphere that contrasts the lyrics.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
