pocket elephant – “better be dyin'”

/

A memorable new single from pocket elephant, “better be dyin'” builds with moody intrigue. Nocturnal percussive components pair with haunting piano into soaring guitar exhilaration past the two-minute turn. Debonair vocal layers express on losing sleep due to infatuation, further intoxicating with the night-set introspection — aesthetically showing shades of The xx and James Blake. A fervent display of rhythmic bustling and twangy exuberance takes hold past the three-minute mark, as vocals sensually convey “touch my skin, lose control,” sentiments into the compelling finale.

“Ultimately, this song is about being able to set boundaries with others, as well as yourself,” the artist explains. “Creating this song was a way for me to communicate not only to other people, but to myself, how severe the act of people pleasing can affect your mental health. It’s plagued me for years and has definitely altered my internal monologue and outward behaviors in ways that are pretty damn unhealthy.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
