Pillow Talk – “Fog” + “Mystery Bop”

/

New England-based artist Pillow Talk unveils a dreamily enveloping sound across two recent tracks: the nocturnal-set contemplative “Fog” and more radiant “Mystery Bop.” The project of Nickolas Donlin excels with a sound steeped in both compelling atmospherics and melodic immediacy, strongly evident on this pair of successes.

“Fog” immerses from the get-go with its intriguing acoustics and spacey frequencies underlying. Soft percussion evolves into a string-laden shimmering, invoking a grippingly mysterious soundscape with an otherworldly glow. “Nighttime arrived,” the vocals let out with lush entrancement, set alongside the twinkling keys and evolving into a beautiful chorus with warm, gauzy synth accompaniments and rising vocal momentum. Per the artist, the track’s lyrics “convey a change of time and perhaps season.”

The more recent “Mystery Bop” also enamors. Clanging guitar tones and harmonious vocal layers combine seamlessly, fully hypnotic as wintry glistening traverses into a two-minute turn with effervescent gorgeousness. “Is it make believe?” the vocals ask there, furthering the vibe-heavy mystique. These are two thorough success from Pillow Talk.

The tracks precede Pillow Talk’s upcoming debut album, Nick at Night, out on August 16th.

These and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
