Peter Xifaras – ‘Dystopian World’ EP

Dystopian World is a classical music EP that explores the poignant reality of George Orwell’s novel 1984. Led by the vision of composer, guitarist, and producer Peter Xifaras, the release was recorded in Prague by the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Vladimir Martinka. Guest violinist Xander Nichting also features prominently. The seven tracks are specific in their themes, each exuding relevant aspects of today’s society that echo Orwellian worlds in past fiction.

“Tears of Humanity” opens beautifully, initially portraying a sense of hopeful grandiosity in the strings before moving into a more forlorn weeping. “DeHumanization” follows with an even more unsettling tone, particularly in the second half where abrupt clashing and higher-pitched anxiety evoke a foreboding inventiveness. Click-clacking percussion signifies the “time is ticking” ethos on “Death Clock,” which refers to a true Orwellian assertion: “The most effective way to destroy people is to deny and obliterate their own understanding of their history.”

Subdued mystique swells into similarly jumpy anxiety on “Brave New World,” highlighting how controlling forces influence the perception of past, present, and future. The finale, “Dystopia,” weaves spacious envelopment with forceful bursts of orchestration, concluding with an unsettling reversed-audio effect that echoes the past with a haunting effect. Dystopian World is a timely and impactful EP from Peter Xifaras.
