Permanent Resident – “Ashes For Dreams”

/

Evolving from folk-friendly introspection into a hooky rock vigor, “Ashes For Dreams” is a new single from Melbourne-based band Permanent Resident. “It’s far too hot to be feeling like this,” the initial vocals let out, complemented by lush acoustic strums. They assume a more declarative, multi-layered power-pop entrancement within the “I saw your name,” refrain. Sporadic guitar jangles and harmonious vocals meld with replay-inducing appeal, as playful synths cap off this riveting sequence.

“But it’s not the same,” the spirited vocals lament in the second half, as an excitable percussive fill arises into the “left my wallet,” hook that follows. “Ashes For Dreams” is a charming, melodic winner from Permanent Resident, who formed recently after another project dissolved. We’re certainly looking forward to hearing what’s next from them, following this standout.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.

We discovered this release via MusoSoup, as part of the artist’s promotional campaign.
