myah – “flames”

/

Evolving from dreamy introspection to a cathartic sense of support, “flames” is a resonating new single from Los Angeles-based artist myah. Laments that “we’re tumbling,” are complemented by gentle percussive throbbing, as the lush vocals admit “maybe I’m just neurotic,” as twinkling keys adorn alongside. “Are you awake?” they question briefly, launching into an anthemic chorus. “I wanna save you from your dark thoughts,” myah sings thereafter with an added effervescence to the surrounding instrumentation and vocal layers.

The expanding structural composure pairs with gripping lyrical sentiments — chronicling an unraveling relationship where one partner convinces themselves they aren’t worthy of love; the result is a track with ample emotional depth and a memorably melodic direction. The concluding “if only,” sequence serves as a tribute to the movie Holes — referencing the film’s curse, and the relationship within the track bearing a curse of sorts, as well.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.

We discovered this release via MusoSoup, as part of the artist’s promotional campaign.
