Minus32Heartbeat – “This City Shines So Bright”

/

Exuding a melodic rock sound within lyrical themes of isolation and betrayal, “This City Shines So Bright” is a memorable single from NYC-based project Minus32Heartbeat, representing the moniker of NYC-based artist Matt Friedlander. The track marks the second single from the artist’s upcoming debut album, DHRICMV. “This specific song speaks to a flurry of emotions I felt during the early onset of the COVID pandemic,” Friedlander says.

Formerly the lead guitarist and songwriter for the band The GoStation, Friedlander has us firmly anticipating upcoming releases from his solo project, with the success of “This City Shines So Bright.” Playful synths and pulsing guitars complement an introspective vocal presence. “Thought I found you, but this city shines so bright,” they let out; further verses echo themes of disappointment, with comparisons to being blinded by light aligning with a sense of feeling lost within tumult. Friedlander’s steady, harmonious vocal presence bolsters a guitar-fronted, delightful production that entices replays.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.

We discovered this release via MusoSoup, as part of the artist’s promotional campaign.
