Michael Zuzek – “Graystone”

/

Toronto-based artist Michael Zuzek infuses ragtime piano inspirations and radiant vocal escalations on new single “Graystone,” from his forthcoming album, Everest. A notable artistic influence, per Zuzek, is Burton Cummings of The Guess Who. The name for “Graystone” derives from Zuzek’s childhood street, an apt choice, since themes within prove reflective on growing up.

“I don’t miss it anymore, I still cry from your face,” the forlorn vocals let out alongside the piano work, driving into a second half that features reversed strings, which exude a caressing dose of nostalgia. “I’m just waiting here in the dark,” they admit further, with the lush string incorporations molding cohesively within the mix. There’s an enjoyable quaintness structurally within the emotively contemplative ruminations, set against a sound that shows a number of influences, including “The Beatles’ nostalgic tunes and Lou Reed’s minimal yet impactful string melodies.”

We discovered this release via MusoSoup, as part of the artist’s promotional campaign.
