The Become EP showcases the blissfully atmospheric sound of Luga. The project of Brighton, UK-based artist Lewis Broad-Ashman impresses with a sound steeped in chillstep influence, embracing lush soundscapes and harmonious vocal additions.
“Become us” opens the EP with a serene enchantment. Crackling warmness and spacey synths align with ambience of children’s’ laughter; the soundscape is fully alluring. Glimmering synth textures and subdued vocal reflections enamor thereafter, balancing ethereal engrossment with a hypnotic percussive pulse. The book-ending effects and laid-back atmospherics remind of a calm Sunday afternoon at the park.
The subsequent “Distant stare” reminds fondly of Burial’s most serene efforts; enveloping, ethereal vocals combine with effervescent synth swells for a fully inviting sound. The concluding “Flying Lower” weaves twinkling keys into soft emerging vocals and a breezy gauziness, concluding a very strong EP from Luga in satiating form.
