Jane Honor – “If It Doesn’t End”

/

Twangy guitars and affecting vocal work consume across “If It Doesn’t End,” a new track from Jane Honor, a singer/songwriter born and raised in NYC and now based in Los Angeles. Her sound emanates with a nostalgic captivation, conjuring a classic sound reminiscent of Carole King and Laura Nyro. A modern dreaminess also floats on, stirred by the hazy keys as the vocals as if it’s “all set in place.” Reflective guitar twangs linger impactfully, arising into the gripping “stubborn heart won’t open for anyone,” chorus.

Lyrically, the effort captivates in its relatable, heartfelt sentiments — that being an apprehension to enter into a relationship, even when someone seems perfect. “This could be fun, if it doesn’t end,” Honor’s vocals admit with a forlorn introspection; the tendency to enter into bleak scenarios, even with the sun shining, is something that can be difficult to fight — and this beautifully written track from Jane Honor captures such emotionally complex thought process with artful, melodic poise.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.

We discovered this release via MusoSoup, as part of the artist’s promotional campaign.
