Fonoptikon – “Liquid Skies” (feat. Myrto Stylou)

/

A riveting electro-pop success, “Liquid Skies” is the latest single from Fonoptikon, the project of Greek musician Stefanos Konstantinidis. Infectious synth arpeggios and atmospheric pad infusions pair with an enthralling vocal performance from Myrto Stylou, who is part of fellow Athens-based band Kalte Nacht. Their dynamic vocals range from flourishing, melodic soaring into the more spoken-word feeling, remarking on “liquid skies,” and contemplative drives.

Infusing synthwave and darkwave elements alongside Konstantinidis’ love for sci-fi films and literature, “Liquid Skies” is exemplary of the project’s knack for cinema-friendly atmospherics and hooky structural unveilings. The whirring synths and initial reference to “floating clouds and fluid Earth,” exude a sky-high sense of majesty, building with sporadic rhythmic momentum as vocals declare “it’s all a blur when lights go dim,” into a melodic vocoded impact. The melodic fervency continues from there, driving into the “the girl cries under liquid skies,” hook with replay-inducing appeal. “Liquid Skies” is a fantastic electro-pop showing from Fonoptikon and Myrto Stylou.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Electronic.
