Diana Omar – “matching your energy”

/

Lyrical observations on social anxieties and insecurities meld with a ’90s pop/rock nostalgia on “matching your energy,” a standout new single from Baltimore-based artist Diana Omar. “Fight-or-flight mode activate,” the vocals commence, guided by an evolving range of jangling guitars into the synth-laden escalation. Playful guitars and flourishing synths glide into the contagious title-touting refrain, easily inducing replays.

The cohesive blend of melodic vocals, dynamic guitars, and lush synths make for a compelling sound throughout. Interweaving vocal layers are especially riveting in the final minute, culminating in a final “I’m matching your energy,” hook — artfully bringing back the track’s themes on interpersonal interactions, and how a lack of extroversion may simply be matching the energy of those around them. We’re excited for whatever’s next from Diana Omar.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
