A gorgeous, dreamy success from Dag och Natt, “Writing of a Story” represents the second single from the Stockholm-based quartet. Their initial aim was to create two separate bands — entitled ‘Dag’ and ‘Natt’ — though that eventually formed into one: Dag och Natt, a project that — so far, across two impressive tracks — presents a gripping balance of daylight and darkness, within a melodic dream-pop and alt-rock arsenal.
“Writing of a Story” possesses a lushly atmospheric charm, fantastic production, and overall immediacy of a band with ample experience; it makes sense, as the four members were all in previous bands in the Stockholm scene since the ’90s, including the band Lane. “Writing of a Story” precedes Dag Och Natt’s debut EP, Years and years, out later this year.
“I’m in trouble, baby, didn’t you know?” the melodic vocals ask amidst calmingly sporadic acoustics and a twangy guitar drive. Haunting vocal layers assemble with chilling effect in the subsequent section, culminating back into the bridge with a warming bass emphasis. The ascent to the two-minute turn grips with another blissful meshing of vocal layers. “Writing of a Story” is a beautiful dream-pop standout from Dag och Natt.
