Brian Mathew – “Old Flames” (feat. Jory Avner)

/

Denver-based singer/songwriter Brian Mathew emits a melodic folk charm on new single “Old Flames,” featuring Jory Avner. Its lyrics reflecting on past loves — “old flames,” — resonates within an arsenal of steady acoustics, whistling effects, and a string-laden lingering. The “keeper of the flames, who talks to himself,” sections immerses in its multiple vocal layers and plucky guitar chiming. The two vocalists show enjoyably in their own entrances across the verses, culminating with flame-warming impact upon the chorus’ arrival. “Old Flames” is a stellar piece of songwriting from Brian Mathew.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
