A gorgeously unraveling single from Dublin-based artist Sour Blood, “Suas” enthralls in its development from ghostly vocal sparseness into a gripping converge of orchestral power and whirring rhythms. Written and recorded in collaboration with Brendan Jenkinson, “Suas” represents the first single and title track from Sour Blood’s debut album. The release includes a riveting music video from Gareth and Robyn Byrne, shot on Kodak 16mm film.
Gentle percussive pulses and a lush twinkling commences the track with atmospheric intrigue. The vocals follow with an emotively enveloping tone, reminiscent tonally at points of Thom Yorke; the elongated form and orchestral-laden flourishes throughout craft such a comparison. The mid-point is riveting in its expanse, bringing forth an array of brass-forward bustling and textural momentum. “Suas” is a standout accomplishment in structural momentum and a satiating payoff. We’re firmly anticipating the forthcoming full-length of the same name.
