“Temptation Is a Weapon” is a fantastic return for Louisville-based band myclownshoes, who immerse with an ardent rock sound here following a nearly five-year hiatus. The single is part of their newly released sophomore album Tantrum, and represents a notable aesthetical shift — from lusher R&B inclinations into a rousing alt-rock passion. Per the band, the track “delves into the complexities of a forbidden attraction and religious guilt for wanting someone carnally.”
An angst-y momentum, with heady guitar distortion and fervent vocals, drives into the title-referencing escalation. “I’ll take this lovesick straight to hell,” they further convey in the ensuing verses, commanding a grungy nostalgia into the elongated “sucker punch,” vocal immersion. The “you ask too many questions,” bass-y bridge hypnotizes in its striking tonal switch-up, cohesively arriving back into the feverish “temptation is a weapon,” hook; the track is a fantastic showcase in rock-forward invigoration from myclownshoes.
