Fig/Astro – “VR”

/

Dublin-based duo Fig/Astro impress on their debut single “VR,” strutting a soulfully mellow rock entrancement with a replay-inducing groove. Per the band, the track represents their re-imagining of “a day in the life” style narrative, “from the perspective of Big Tech’s AI-mind.” Will humans become objectified by overtaking technology, and pushed to the side? “VR” stirs in its analysis of rapid technological advances in the AI space, and how that may impact our roles moving forward.

Free-flowing guitars and lush vocals present an immersive sound, with those vocals appearing with sporadic momentum alongside wordless backing accompaniments. References to objects and intelligence, lyrically, consume within the poignant thematic pursuit. The twangy guitars and ethereal vocal confidence maintain a steady engrossment throughout, resulting in a fantastic blend of rock and sophisti0-pop, showing Fig/Astro as a project well worth checking out.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
