David Henneberg – “Jay Boy”

/

An evolving rock sound with ample personality and cinematic inspiration, “Jay Boy” is a newly released single from Canadian artist David Henneberg. “I love the ocean, and I love my mom,” the vocals open alongside quaint guitars and flickering piano touches, establishing the narrative influence. “This song is from the perspective of Jay “Jay Boy” Adams – one of the Z-boys that inspired the movie Lords of Dogtown – from his early days surfing,” Henneberg explains.

“She likes her whiskey, and sleeping with Don,” the vocals intrigue past the starting adoration for mom; a series of characters are enjoyably established throughout, bridged together by a reassuringly blissful “catch a wave,” hook. “Everything will be just fine,” they let out a more carefree lushness, with dreamy vocal reflections and glistening guitar additions melding with hypnotic effect. Quaint piano and chugging guitars further enamor past the two-minute turn, carrying seamlessly into a delectably twangy conclusion amidst the main refrain.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
