The second single so far this year from London-based band DAAY, “Land Of The Living” ventures from thumping pop intrigue into an expansive effervescence — complemented by heady thematic pursuits, detailing the pursuit of transcending our personal dimension and world. The infusion of colors — red, orange, yellow, blue and green — strives to express “the apparent ability to transcend this world through the re-assessment of daily rituals,” per the project.
The “just live a little,” refrain is especially intoxicating, weaving brassy atmospherics that move seamlessly into the bass-y “in bed with the sunrise,” re-emergence. This section references a frustration inherent in these dimensional pursuits, with the band describing the striving to “live a little” as “contradictory to the true meaning of living,” noting further: “‘Live a little’ in this world seems to be an invitation for intoxication and self harm, the true antithesis of living.” An intoxicating and thematically heady success, “Land Of The Living” is another compelling showcase from DAAY, after catching our ears last year with the Cosmic Gossip EP.
