Babe Report – “Allergy 2000”

//

Chicago-based act Babe Report channel a heady rock nostalgia, reminiscent of Yo La Tengo, on their new single “Allergy 2000.” Hypnotic bass currents, enveloping distortion, and a playful guitar chirpiness align with compelling qualities amidst sporadic vocal enticement. “The song to me is a vehicle for that soaring guitar lead line, which gets reprised after the tempo change,” says member Ben Grigg. “I think this one might have started as a ‘Let’s try to make a Yo La Tengo song’ experiment.”

Certainly, that soaring guitar line exudes a triumphant tonal grip throughout, moving with feverish intent into brisker rhythms and accelerated tonal ferocity in the final minute. “Allergy 2000” is a showcase in climactic, nostalgic rock charisma from Babe Report.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
