Tom Tikka & The Missing Hubcaps – “Wrecking Ball” (feat. Lappe & Nicklas)

/

A fervent, nostalgic rock success from Tom Tikka & The Missing Hubcaps, “Wrecking Ball” exudes an anthemic outpouring with a dose of ’80s rock nostalgia. Featuring guitarist Lauri “Lappe” Holopainen and vocalist Nicklas Nyman, the track marks another success from the Helsinki-based project of Tom Tikka, also known for his work with Carmen Gray — which Lappe and Nicklas are also a member of.

“Have you heard the news?” the vocals open with a throwback rock charisma, lamenting a heart broken two and a beloved hurting oneself with the “wrecking ball.” A break-up anthem feels apparent within ’80s-friendly nostalgic guitars, as the vocals lament: “It’s hard to stand up six feet tall, when she hurts me with her wrecking ball.”

Anguish and yearning are conveyed within an affecting rock sound, particularly as a powerful vocal refrain traverses into a delectably emotive guitar solo as the two-minute turn approaches. “Wrecking Ball” is an infectious, heartfelt rock success from Tom Tikka & The Missing Hubcaps.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
