Singer/songwriter, producer, and visual artist Odelet presents a gripping sound across her new album, Pisces Pie. Lush vocal entrancement navigates across soundscapes propelled solely by keyboard and drum machine, melding old school hip-hop influences with pop, soul, and R&B flair. The album is an impressive display in atmosphere from Odelet, who is originally from Detroit and presently based in California.
“When it comes to my vocals, I just hear what I hear… something about it can feel like jazz,” Odelet explains. “But in terms of production, this album was definitely inspired by my love of old school Hip-Hop.” The title track is exemplary of that dynamic engrossment, intertwining flourishing, jazzy piano tones and sporadic bass pulses within a late-night vocal enthrallment. “Paired” is is another standout with its ooh-ing vocal layers and lounge-friendly rhythmic pull.
Pisces Pie is consistently commanding in its moody productions. “Cinderella” expresses a desire to “fall in love again,” within a booming bass intrigue, fully impressing, while the concluding “Carousel” further embraces the jazz realm into the gorgeous “so exquisite,” refrain. Pisces Pie is an enveloping success from Odelet.
