Kallai – “Palisades”

/

A track out today from Portland, OR-based band Kallai, “Palisades” immerses with its moody rock atmospherics. The lyrics prove apt — “it’s getting colder, the leaves are falling…” — in igniting a chilly intrigue alongside a glimmering textural component and bass-y resonance, the latter of which invokes a post-punk charm. Shimmering tones envelop as the vocals proclaim they’ll “tell you what I need,” leading to a series of escalating guitar work that concludes with a fuzzed-out, ethereal rock blissfulness.

“Palisades” also impresses with its dual-vocal implementations, featuring David Gross on lead and Cate Huckle in the background, adding to the lush entrancement. The band notes that “the song tells a story about learning how to open oneself up to new connections after a series of difficult years has left one guarded.” The band (pronounced like ‘call-eye’) thoroughly impress with this atmospheric, gently unfolding rocker, successfully following up their debut single, “Always/Never.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
