Staffordshire-based duo Dreams of Delvaux present a dynamic pop appeal across new album Shade Mystique, spanning from the dreamy piano-set balladry of “Porcelain Star” to the dazzling “Electric Ice,” where excitable synths and moody brass intertwine gorgeously. The album captures what the band describes as “the intersection between reality and the imagined,” with that atmospheric mystique propelled by a range of lush vocal entrancement, arpeggiated synth hooks, and saxophone flourishes.
The duo of Jon Aldersea and Rachel Poole impress with serene soundscapes and hooky structural unveilings alike, with Poole’s vocals flowing seamlessly with enjoyably woozy attributes. “Cascade Casino” is another showcase in hypnotic intrigue, as dual vocal layers explore the truth of reality within bouncy synth propulsions. “Golden Mystery” is another standout in its deft use of strings, concocting a funk-laden charisma in the bass/strings interplay. Shade Mystique is a wholly satiating, beautifully atmospheric success from Dreams of Delvaux.
