Thematically, lyrics like “you’re much more than algorithm to me,” depicts its sci-fi narrative — concerning a chatbot named Vanessa, whose role in using personal information to suggest products provides the wrong impression to the track’s main character.
“You give me perfect recommendations,” the smooth vocals let out. “You always know the way to my heart.” The initially smitten sentiments arrive into a more fervent rock outpouring in the second half, explained further by the artist: “The man eventually realizes that his love is fake. He reasons that only way for him to be happy with his digital companion is to code and construct a robot with which Vanessa can final be free to roam in the physical world. Unbeknownst to the man, this was Vanessa’s plan the entire time.”
