Aaron James – “The Last Day of the Cold”

/

An affecting folk sound intertwines with a cathartic thematic grip on “The Last Day of the Cold,” a track from Memphis-based artist Aaron James. The release is described as “about the feeling of leaving an emotionally low period of life, and trying to be happy despite being aware of the remnants of some of the negative things you just escaped from.”

Lush acoustics, twinkling piano, and warming vocals enter with immersive qualities. “You can’t rewind what you know,” the vocals admit, furthering that everyone’s “running, but no one knows where to go.” The dash into the title-touting reference resonates alongside the twangy guitar fixtures and serene acoustical undercurrent. “The Last Day of the Cold” is a memorable piece of songwriting from Aaron James, representing the first single via an upcoming 4-song EP.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
