Denver-based band Sqwerv presents a hypnotic, island-set intrigue across their new EP, Hors D’oeuvres Part 1. A chilled-out atmospheric mystique takes hold throughout, with a glistening sense of ’80s nostalgia adorning the Miami-laden nocturnal spirit.
The opening “Miami” dazzles with its atmospheric allure, meshing tender guitar swipes and sporadic vocal whispers for a seductive entrancement. A funky bass arrival into the two-minute turn compels further, as concluding sirens add to the late-night, balmy soundscape. “Honolulu Blue” melds twangy guitars and debonair piano accompaniments with riveting effect, rising into an effervescent jangling by mid-point that emits a sweetly nostalgic ’80s rock/pop appeal.
Also impressing, “Jada” concludes the album with similarly ravishing qualities, emitting a more ballad-set tranquility as warming guitars and twinkling piano intertwine beautifully. Hors D’oeuvres Part 1 is a fully compelling EP from Sqwerv.
