Geoff Gibbons – “Morgantown”

/

A twangy tale of love amidst a small-town retrospection, “Morgantown” is a consuming new single from Geoff Gibbons. The Vancouver-based singer/songwriter emits a “when you’re not around,” yearning amidst an escalating emotional outpouring. Impressing in previous years with singles such as “Keep on Driving” and “Feet Out the Window,” Gibbons continues to strut a harmonious, narratively affecting brand of Americana with the riveting “Morgantown.”

Initial vocal reflections, set on the river’s shore, enamor in telling the tale of young love. “Morgantown was just too small to ever hold you in,” the vocals let out — lamenting how the streets feel empty and different now that their beloved is not around. “I’m wondering where you are,” they continue as the sun rises on Morgantown, conveying a sense of loneliness and yearning for a past, when the town felt warmer with potential and love. “Morgantown” is another moving showcase in songwriting from Geoff Gibbons.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
