French power trio Wildation deliver an expressive rock and pop appeal on their new EP Beyond The Ridge. From the rousing twangs on the anthemic “Nothing Lasts” to the string-laden folk resonance within “Endlessly,” Beyond The Ridge is a consistently compelling showing from the band, comprising guitarist/lead vocalist Vincent Gérard, drummer Martin Chevrier, and Paul Galéron on bass, Moog, and vocals.
“Over The Clouds” opens with crisply melodic enamoring, emphasizing the importance of trying and perseverance. Buzzing guitars adorn the title-referencing chorus, “looking up to the top of the mountain,” amidst times of strife. Various vocal layers converge with the airy guitars for replay-inducing effect in the central hook. The closing “Lay Down” presents a sparser folk quality initially, embracing a bluesy sort of introspection; the mellow initial sound expands into a riveting rock appeal, full of scorching intensity — making for an aptly dynamic send-off to this stellar EP from Wildation.
