London-based band Sweet Unrest present a hooky rock/pop appeal on “Peace of Mind,” succeeding in both its distortion-friendly rises and more subdued introspection. Formed by songwriter and lead singer Jack River, following a renewal with sobriety and great self-awareness, Sweet Unrest emits a sense of crisply melodic catharsis. “The band gives me peace of mind. It keeps the demons away,” Jack says. The track releases alongside a music video.
Twangy guitars exude a hypnotic radiance to start, leading into vocals that lament “I’ve had enough of the state I’m in,” alongside more enthused swaying. A heavier dose of distortion aligns with the dynamic vocal range, traversing from lush contemplation to a Libertines-esque rasp, for an enveloping hook. A spirited romp of guitars impress thereafter at the mid-point, with the next chorus’ reveal amplified further by twinkling piano flourishes and wordless backing vocal additions. “Peace of Mind” is a melodic, climactic rock success from Sweet Unrest.
