Rock and country influences enamor throughout the release, which was recorded at Admiral Bean Studio and features the collaborative work of longtime friend and Neil Young bandmate Anthony Crawford.
Pit-pattering percussion and rousing guitars venture into a gripping lyrical narrative. “Preacher says the battle will commence at noon,” Lee’s vocals add a charismatic momentum. Buzzing guitars complement the blade-sharpening and “start your engines,” vigor, exuding a soul-saving bluesy fervency into the “make it a great crusade,” punctuation. Mellow piano accompaniments linger in the ensuing verses, rising into another riveting title-touting hook. “Great Crusade” is a compelling piece of songwriting from Lolly Lee.
