A new track from Contemporary Adult, “See My Fast Car Racing” is an eclectic, brisk art-rock success with capricious structural charms and poignant thematic resonance, capturing the complexities of “living in an alienating late-stage-capitalist environment.” Excitably melodic vocals complement a range of peppy guitars and dynamic brass, spanning from lush mood-setting to perky vibrancy. The track represents the first peek at the project’s upcoming album, Arson, which Contemporary Adult continues to platy live.
Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Zach Farr fronts the project, which is conceptual in nature. The concept is described as such: “Contemporary Adult is a humanoid sea creature that found their way to land and is attempting to learn the ways of humans. Each release explores this process to some extent, as the character tries on different personas in simultaneously cartoonish and deeply relatable ways.”
Jumpy guitars and reflective vocals do well in crafting an initial momentum, expanding into delectably raucous guitars and multi-layered vocal enthusiasm past the one-minute turn. The brass-y warmness and “do I,” vocal harmonizing inject a replay-inducing flair, with multiple sections beyond impressing — including the Springsteen-esque brass infusions past the three-minute mark.
