A dynamic album out today from Aptøsrs, Elders compels in its range of soundscapes, from the darkly dexterous “Graveyard Syndrome” to the jangly lushness of “With Each Step.” The Los Angeles-based artist first caught our attention with debut single “Rust Mountain” in February, and Elders continues to showcase the memorable songwriting and production of composer/songwriter Paul Terry.
Terry’s instrumental project presents a riveting sound throughout Elders. “A Peaceful Way to Defy Them All” is exemplary of the tactfully unveiling atmospheric momentum, steadily incorporating gentle piano amidst clanging distorted pulses for a chilling effect, with shades of the Twin Peaks theme.
Elsewhere, “Nothing but Recall” evolves into a more vibrant display of charismatic piano amidst danceable percussion, emphasizing the project’s overall versatility. “Questionnaires” is another standout, emphasizing a cinematic-friendly spaciousness in its graceful piano playing and orchestral flourishes. Elders is a wholly consuming album from Aptøsrs.
