A slice of charismatic prog-rock adventuring, “REVLOT!” is the new single from The Great Googly Moogly. Sounding like a cross of Supergrass, Zappa, and Black Midi, the track’s production expands from a concise and punchy vigor into hazy psych-rock crawls, impressing with its eclectic tonal pursuits and thematic hold. A surf-y ardency flows past the three-minute turn, as the expressive guitar tones mesh with excitable vocal spurts and brassy additions. Punchy, unsettling bursts of melodic goodness conclude with satiating effect on this creative tour-de-force.
The band describe the release as “a campy, bouncy soliloquy of a prince to a private-beach parking lot empire, driven aerially sick by the height of his ivory tower,” — capturing the protagonist’s “despairs over what he can do to right the wrong of his oppressive family’s historic damage.”
“REVLOT!” is the first song of a 4-single, 4-month series from the band called the “The Helmut Beach” series.
