“Overpass” is a mellow, melodic single from Little Champion, immersing with gentle guitar lines and lush vocal entrancement. The Asheville, NC-based music project of Dustin Goldklang impressed last month with the single “Like the Earth is Flat,” and succeeds again here. “Overpass” also compels in its infusion of nostalgic lyrics — referencing a sense of home and comfort, in addition to childhood recollections (like eating too much candy on Halloween).
“Sunlight’s peeking in over the overpass, home feels closer than it ever has,” Goldklang’s vocals let out, ruminating “if I move away, will it feel the same?” amidst climactic guitar bustling that traverses seamlessly back into the balmy initial familiarity. A serenely memorable appeal lingers throughout, with a sun-setting sense of retrospection conveying an artful precision throughout the sincere lyrics. “Overpass” is an affecting, melodic success from Little Champion.
