Katmaz – “Blue Morpho”

/

The latest success from Los Angeles-based artist Katmaz, “Blue Morpho” takes inspiration from the elusive butterfly of the same name. A past lover is another source of influence, with their enigmatic and fleeting qualities also reflective of the blue morpho butterfly. The artful, poetic lyrics combine with a timeless-feeling psych-folk enamoring, as sturdy acoustics and hazy vocals build into a gorgeous harmonizing past the two-minute turn.

Trickling guitars and occasional percussive stomps add further to the palpable momentum, with the shift from 4/4 to 3/4 stirring with captivating cohesion into the “can’t find a friend,” hypnotic refrain. “Blue Morpho” is another success from Katmaz, the project of multi-instrumentalist and producer Matthew Kaz that has impressed in prior years with tracks like “Agnostic” and “Too Soon.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
