“Punchline” is a gorgeous new single from Ghost Cloak, the project of British-born, North Texas-based songwriter Hasan Naeem.
“Hang on for the dawn, it’s coming soon,” debonair vocals let out amidst a bouncy bass line and calming piano. A twinkling adornment adds enjoyably as a doo-wop vocal reflection emerges, adding a wistfully nostalgic charm into the “waiting for the punchline,” drive. The devastatingly beautiful “you got me,” acknowledgement takes hold thereafter. Strings follow with further majestic, starry-eyed immersion, fondly reminiscent of Richard Hawley.
An effervescent glistening combines with multiple vocal layers past the two-minute turn, bridging the effusive “you got me,” with more debonair contemplations as the strings linger beautifully alongside the steady guitar strums. “Punchline” is a lovingly nostalgic success from Ghost Cloak with memorably melodic endurance.
