The third release from Chicago-based rockers Getting Started, “Anywhere” succeeds with a soaring guitar-led production alongside a sturdy lyrical drive, exploring the beauty in finding “connection and belonging in unexpected places.” The quartet formed in 2022, and includes vocalist/rhythm guitarist Jack Gallo, lead guitarist Matt Stein, bassist Pat Hickey, and drummer Jack Scanlon. They recorded this effort at Gravity Studios, which has previously hosted artists such as Alabama Shakes and The Smashing Pumpkins.
The track exudes a sound fit for the open road, alongside someone beloved. “I’ll take you anywhere this side of the coast,” suave vocals let out, meshing beautifully with twangy guitar spurts alongside a hazy rhythm guitar backing. The desire to go “anywhere, to escape this perpetual glare,” is fitting for the road-trip vibes — driving south through the Appalachians and well beyond. The “tell me where you wanna go,” enticement grabs from the get-go, and satiates thereafter with a comforting arsenal of melodic guitars and confident vocal stylings.
