“Homeless” is the latest single from Polyvoda. The project formed in Kyiv, Ukraine, in 2022 — and are beginning to make waves with a wide-ranging stylistic presentation, melding trip-hop, rap, and soul with atmospheric and melodic precision. All of their songs feature female vocals, and that element is apparent on the gripping “Homeless” as well.
The captivating “Homeless” begins with intrigue; glowing synths and a assembly-line rhythmic sensations drive into a confident vocal lead, balancing a hip-hop and soul aesthetic. The lushly melodic delivery reminds fondly of Little Simz. Caressing wordless vocals rise during a spine-tingling section, where more prominent rhythmic pushes excel into the “I don’t care,” vocal hook.
“Road blocks don’t phase me,” the vocals let out into the aforementioned rise, strutting an empowering fierceness into the haunting vocal backing. “Homeless” is a standout success from Polyvoda, following up the similarly compelling single “Bonfire.”
Polyvoda elaborate further on the track:
“It’s about the choice between the comfort of a fireplace at home and a journey through an unfamiliar mountainous terrain in the fog, wet and bewildered but filled with hope that beyond the next slope, you’ll find what you are set out for.”
