A ghostly lushness stirs on “Twenty-Seven,” the latest single from Nefeli On Clouds. The Athens, Greece-based artist first caught our ears with the spaciously dreamy single “Clouds” in September, and continues a fruitful 2023 with the gripping “Twenty-Seven.” The artist crafts a gorgeous sound alongside her partner Alessandro; they met at a small concert in Cologne, Germany, and their combined passion for music has resulted in a fantastic collaborative project. Per the duo, “Twenty-Seven” conveys the simultaneous sense of euphoria and nervousness apparent when falling in love.
Mellow keys and a chilling backing texture guide into solemn vocals. “Palms sweat, knees weak,” they descriptively let out, emitting physical descriptions of finding one’s new connection. “I will find you, just a matter of time,” a soaring vocal presence exudes thereafter, with twinkling keys adding to the dazzling display. Lush guitar tones add to the serene yet emotive soundscape. “Twenty-Seven” is a dreamily engrossing success, one that describes a fateful meeting — and an ensuing rush of feelings — amidst a strongly melodic pull.
